2020 edition WWE’s The Money in the Bank is set to launch on May 10, with two ladder matches being held at the WWW headquarters. W in the Bank is one of the most exciting gimmick matches in the WWE and it is the outcome of this match that continues to have a tong-term impact on WWE’s top stories.
The first Money in the Bank ladder match was held at WrestleMania 21 with Edge The chance to win a briefcase and cash it out anytime next year. He played it smart, and got a deal with John Cena, tired of the New Year’s Revolution, winning his first WWE title in the process.
Since then, money has been a stepping stone for future world champions, like the title in The Bank of the Intercontinental, but there are examples where former world champions have won briefcases, and not a youth gun. Let’s take a look at 7 such examples.
# 7 Why
Why MITB won the briefcase in 2010 and didn’t wait long to cash it out Later in the night, Can dropped the britcase to Ray Mysterio, who defeated Jack Swagger to retain his world title. Kane had previously won the WWE title in 1998 when he lost to Stone Cold in the King of the Ring.
Ken currently serves as mayor of Knox County, Tennessee, and occasionally attends WWE.
# 6 CM Punk
CM Punk won the MITB deal at WrestleMania 25 for the second time and cashed in on Jeff Hardy a few months later after effectively turning the heel. Punk’s previous win came a year ago when he won a contract at WrestleMania 24 and cashed in on Edge to become world champion. This is a week after the draft was made to the WWW.
Punk returned to wrestling last November as an analyst at WWE Backstage. He appeared occasionally on the show and was able to manage the rating suite on various occasions.
