Copenhagen forward Michael Santos has been banned for three European matches after a clash with a police officer, UEFA confirmed.

Santos clashed with an officer while celebrating Celtic’s second goal of his team’s Europa League win in February.

Copenhagen have confirmed that the Scottish police have complained against Santos and a steward of their club after the match.

And UEFA has now suspended the player for “assaulting another person present in the match.”

Copenhagen has issued a response as they consider the appeal.

A statement read: “Copenhagen believes that the punishment is very severe if all the circumstances of the conflict are taken into account.

“Therefore, we have now asked UEFA for a written statement of approval to determine whether the order should be applied.”
