Pat Cummins has revealed how a tough team interview the next day when Ben Stokes’s header helped Australia continue its Ashes campaign in 2019.

Australia were unable to take control of the third Test after Lord’s draw after winning the series opener in Edgbaston, scoring just 67 runs on the second day of their rivals.

Set an implausible 359 for a win at Leeds, England’s hopes are gone when they fall behind at 286-9. However, with the help of the last man Jack Leach, Stokes defeated the hosts for a stunning one-wicket victory.

The all-rounder finished with an unbeaten যদিও 13, though, after surviving an LBW scramble against Nathan Lyon, which sparked an easy run-out opportunity to dismiss Leach from a previous delivery.

Shown in Amazon Prime’s documentary ‘The Test: A New Era for the Australian Team’, with head coach Justin Langer joining the squad to watch footage of the fourth day’s play the next day, Cummins thought the risk was because emotions were still high.

The fast bowler told the Guardian: “There was a feeling around the team, ‘What is he (Langer) doing? He has given way to this one’.”

“I got the message and I thought, ‘Camon, we’ve all given in, just give us a day off.’

“Everybody played in their heads one night that night. I just think it would be better if we slept on it, had a good day, forgotten, and once we let it all down a bit, we came together.

“It was literally 15 hours after the last ball, so emotions were still high. That was the context of the meeting, everyone was still hurting”

Australia can win the next match in Manchester and England claim the final at The Oval, 2-2 result confirmed the tourists in the Ashes.

“We all had this meeting thinking, ‘Do you know, if we did the same thing a hundred times, we’d win 99 out of 100,'” Cummins added.

He is [Stokes] It was barely a day, played incredibly well. We missed a lot of chances but, you know, it was the last one until the end where somebody came out one day and it closed.
