Borussia Dortmund are hoping Hamels will recover from Achilles’ problem with Tuesday’s match with former club Bayern Munich, but Lucian Favre has revealed that Jadon Sancho is not guaranteed to start.

Huffels had to withdraw in Saturday’s 2-0 win over Wolfsburg in Dalton, as Emrey could return from the bench.

BVB Sports Director Michael Jerk later revealed that the World Cup winner was suffering from a long-term problem.

The Bundesliga champions and leaders face Dortmund against Bayern at Midwick’s Signal Iduna Park.

Jorge said of Hamels after spending three seasons at Bayern before returning to Dortmund: “I spoke briefly with the doctor. There are allegations in Mats’ Achilles tender.

“That’s what he’s got with his long training. But we hope he can play again on Tuesday.”

Head coach Favre added: “I can’t say whether he will play or not. I hope he returns on Tuesday.”

Despite an impressive cameo in Wolfsburg, Sancho’s involvement in the table clash is somewhat in doubt.

Formal Rafael Guerrero added the first-half opener to his 16th assist of the season after the English winger beat Ashraf Hakimi in the second season.

Sancho reappeared from the bench after being sidelined after a calf injury after a calfvirus-forced break.

Sancho was only given a break to start against Bayern, as Favre was rejected.

“He’s only been training with the team for 10 days. It’s not too much,” Favre said. “I can’t say for sure if he will play on Tuesday.”
