Giuseppe Farina won the first Formula One race on this day in 1950, and more recently, May 13 was a historic day for Manchester City.
Farina made her name in the record book with a win at the British Grand Prix 70 years ago.
Sergio Aguero won the last laugh against QPR to snatch the first Premier League title for City on an afternoon of high drama in Manchester eight years ago.
It was Arsenal’s last player in charge of Wenger and it was the first tennis match to this day.
1950 – Flying Farina storms Silverstone to victory
Starting from the pole position, the Italian Farina dominated the inaugural F1 race at Silverstone.
Approximately 120,000 people were present in the crowd with King George VI, Alfa Romeo driver Farina carrying the flag checked before teammate Luigi Fagioli and Reg Parnell.
Great Juan Manuel Fangio retired from the race due to engine problems, also heading to the Grand Prix de Europe.
Farina won the title after such a strong start.
1973 – Riggs defeats the court in the opener in the ‘Battle of the Sex War’
Former world number one Bobby Riggs and legend Margaret Court contested the first ‘Battle of the Sex’ on this day in 1973.
Riggs said she can beat any top female player at the age of 55 and the court moved to take her forward after Billy Jean King rejected her challenge.
Court, the best female player in the world at the time, lost 6-2, 6-1 at the San Vincent Country Club in Ramona, California.
Riggs then challenged King again and he accepted the occasion, beating him four months later on a straight-set, donating the $ 100,000 win to charity.
2012 – Aguero leaves the city in a dreamland
City, who won the England title for the first time in 1918, wanted to miss out when City followed a 10-member QPR on the last day of the 2011-12 season.
Neighboring City got into a great fight at Etihad Stadium just minutes after popping Manchester United champions Corkis.
Adeen Dejeko equalized after 92 minutes and the deadly Aguero returned home with a rifle just minutes later, giving City a sensational 3-2 lead to win the title.
QPR played most of the second half after Xu Burton’s dismissal.
