Bayern Munich’s 2-0 win over Union Berlin on Sunday saw them reach 50 goals in just one match under Hansie Flick – a new Bundesliga record.
Germany returned to the top division on Saturday after a break of more than two months due to the coronavirus epidemic.
But some things just don’t seem to change – Bayern were as clever and effective as before the break, allowing a union side to swim so easily that they rarely came back from a fight.
Robert Lewandowski – who took his personal tally to 40 in all competitions this season – and Benjamin Pavard scored the goal, keeping Bayern ahead and restoring their four-point momentum at the summit.
Flick took over from Nico Kovac in November last year and oversaw an impressive improvement by securing a three-year contract in April.
