Formula One is a great sterling moss

Formula One teams and drivers pay homage to Sterling Moss, who died Sunday at the age of 90.

Moss’ wife confirmed that he died peacefully at his home in Mayfair after a long illness.

Moss was considered the best F1 driver ever to win a world championship, finishing runner-up four times and three times from 3 to 1961.

Yet he was seen as one of motorsport’s best competitors, winning 212 out of 522 races in various categories.

Former Benton and Saber driver Johnny Herbert, among many, honored Moses on social media, describing him as a “world champion in our eyes.”

A tribute was paid to McLaren’s official Twitter account, describing Moss as “an advanced competitor, the most talented racer and the perfect gentleman.”

The team said he would leave “an indelible mark of greatness in the history of international motorsport.”

Alpha describes Romeo Moss as a “true sports legend” and Williams driver George Russell says: “It was a pleasure to meet only [Moss] In short, though, it was enough to explain why he was so respected. “

Williams said that Moss was “a true icon of our sport,” and tweeted Haas to describe Moss as “a strong racist and a real gentleman.”

Former F1 driver and now broadcaster Martin Brundell described Moss as “a powerful racer and gentleman” who “survived the most dangerous era of motorsport”.

Moss, he added, “had a great story to tell and it was a privilege for me to get to know him”.

The official Mercedes account tweeted: “Today, the sports world has lost not only true icons and legends, but also gentlemen. The team and the Mercedes Motorsport family have lost a dear friend. Sir Sterling, we will miss you.”

Former heavyweight boxer Frank Bruno expressed his sympathy, saying that Moss had been a source of personal support “for many years.”

Bruno tweeted: “I am very sorry to hear of Sir Sterling Moss’s passing. He has supported me personally for many years and was a wonderful driver in his time, he will be greatly missed. My thoughts are with his family and everything he has. The joy of knowing. “
