Philadelphia Kills center Jason Kelce has announced that he will retire on Thursday, but only out of arm wrestling, he has announced that he will be returning for the 2021 NFL season.
The 12-year-old, who was a three-time first-team All-Pro this season, didn’t look at his future after the Aggies’ playoff loss to the Seattle Seahawks in January, imagining he could call it a day.
The Kells are under contract through the 2021 season, but the anchor for the Ag Gauls offensive line posted a retirement announcement on social media on Thursday.
However, this is related to his arm wrestling career, with Kelles explaining that he will be back in the NFL.
“So far I haven’t [wanted to] Address my future as I have been putting it off for some time this offseason, ”Kelce wrote on Instagram.
“I wanted my body and mind to fully recover from the rigors of an NFL season and to take time out with my family to see what happened.
“After thinking long and hard about it, I came to a decision. I decided to reschedule from Arm Wrestling.”
After releasing a 2-1 “Drunk Arm Wrestling” record against Philadelphia Flyers captain Claude Giroux, Kelce addressed his NFL future.
“Despite this retirement, I am absolutely excited about the 2020 season and will be there this season with my teammates, coaches and hopeful fans,” he added.
“Enough media members and fans have reached out to see if I’m playing next season and I just wanted to make an announcement so I could stop asking.
“Can’t wait to be there this season, can’t wait to get the game back, and I can’t wait until this lockdown is over.”
So far I am not looking at my future as I have been stressing it for some time this offseason. I wanted to allow my body and mind to fully recover from the rigors of the NFL season and take time with my family to see what happened next. After thinking long and hard about this I came to a conclusion. I decided to reschedule … from Arm Wrestling. I put a 2-1 record behind, one win against this guy, and the other against 20 Sigirux and want to go to the top. It was a good run, but my drunken arm wrestling days are behind me, and it’s better to look forward to a more mature future. I thank everyone for the way it was made possible! Especially @BricanDraw for isolating me after the defeat (which was completely warranted, guys you love) and for getting me to sleep. Despite this retirement, I am absolutely excited about the 2020 season and will be with my teammates, coaches and hopeful fans this coming season. Whether or not I’m playing next season has reached enough media members and fans and I just wanted to make an announcement so I can stop asking. Can’t wait to be there this season, can’t wait to get back in the game and I can’t wait until this lockdown is over. #GoEagles
