Ben Stokes has been named Wisden’s leading cricketer in the world, known as the Bible of Cricket, ending his five-year reign of Indian captain Virat Kohli.
2120 Whiskey Cricketers have announced Almanac Ben Stokes as the best player in the world. Ben Stokes is the only other England player to win the Andrew Blintoff Award in 24 Ben.
Ben Stokes was responsible for the biggest inning of the World Cup final against New Zealand. Similarly, Brian Lara recalled an unbeaten 3-run win over England in the third Test of the Ashes series against Australia.
As Whisson’s editor Lawrence Booth put it, “Ben Stokes, who scored twice-a-week record innings in just a few weeks, scored the first goal of the World Cup with great skill and some luck, helping to score 15 in the Super Over.
He then played the third Test innings at Headingley in the Ashes, unbeaten on 5, to win by one wicket, praising Ben Stokes as “white or red, a force of nature.”
Stokes also won the ICC Player of the Year award. Jofra Archer was named to the five-man list of winners at the World Cup Super Over.
Archers include Asir Pat Cummins, Marnas Laubuschne and Alice Perry. The South African-born Essex squad’s off-spinner Simon Harmer is also on the list.
