According to Shakodran Mustafi, the arrival of Michael Arteta as Arsenal boss has benefited the entire squad.
Former Gonzalez midfielder Unai Emery took charge in December 2019 in the wake of a disappointing spell for the club.
This calendar year was unbeaten in the Arsenal Premier League before the coronavirus epidemic stopped.
And Mustafi, whose club’s future seemed uncertain under Emery, is loving life under the Spaniard.
“Each of us has benefited from this arrival,” Germany International told Arsenal’s official website.
“He has a very clear identity and a clear idea of how he wants to play football, but at the same time he gives you a place to make your own decisions because you are on the pitch and you know exactly what the coach wants.
“I think as well as he’s listening in the changing room and finding out why things aren’t working before to listen to the players. Sometimes we don’t understand how difficult it is to be a coach because you have so many people that you have to follow your ideas.
“Sometimes players are happy, sometimes players aren’t very happy without playing, so it’s not easy to stay on board and agree at all with your ideas and philosophy.
“But he was able to do it and it was very difficult to do it in this short time, but he did it. That’s why we built some momentum and we’re moving in the right direction.”

How Mustafi also discovered as an experienced professional that he could learn something new from an artist who had mastered the art of coaching as Pep Guardiola’s assistant in Manchester City.
“I have benefited from his arrival and his coaching,” he added. “When you were 28, you thought you heard it all and then a coach came in and you still learn and hear things you’ve never heard before.
“He’s been incredible since he came. He’s shown his aura and his personality. He’s so convinced about how he should be in football and how his team wants to play, and you just agree with it and soak up all the information.”
