The San Francisco 49ers have re-signed with a one-year cornerback, returning Jason Verrett and Donte Johnson to a one-year contract.
The 28-year-old Verrette traveled to the Pro Bowl at the San Diego Chargers’ first-round pick of 27, but injuries have limited him to just two games over the last three seasons. He signed with the 49ers on March 14, 2019, after all the 2018 season was out due to a broken Achilles tender.
In his only appearance last season against the Pittsburgh Steelers last week, Varet was beaten for a 39-yard touchdown pass before going out of play with a knee injury and was later placed on injured reserve.
After the Chargers were released, Johnson signed to San Francisco on October 3 and registered seven games and participated in seven games for the 49ers.
The 20-year-old was drafted in the fourth round of the 9th inning and spent his first four seasons in San Francisco spending 633 games and starting 22 before departing for the 21st.
