After postponing the suspension for a few years, Shaun O’Malley returned to the octagon after pushing Jose Quinonez to sleep with a spectacular head kick. UFC 248 and ‘Suga Shan’ has since proved that he is still a heated property in the bantamweight division.
Associate Bantamweights Brian Kelleher and Merb Dalishvili are both keen to catch the intriguing striker and have called for O’Malley to showdown inside the forgiving octagon. On MMA Fighting’s Eurobash Podcast, O’Malley said he wasn’t straightforward with all the attention he was getting lately and would only accept ‘smart’ battles from now on.
“When I was out for two years, nine people called me. Some of them are going to help with my career; Fighting someone like Brian Kelleher is not going to do anything. I think he’s 10-5 or something like that. I’m definitely looking for smart fights. “
O’Malley compared his situation with the former UFC double champ Connor McGregorThen when the featherweight division emerged as a true competitor and they believed that when people realized how dangerous he really was after a few more battles, they would stop calling him.
“It’s good to be called by a group of people. Everyone called Connor. I think the more I fight, the more I will be called, [because people will] Recognize how dangerous I am. “
